The ancestors of the Romanian people are also the Dacians. After Strabo, the Dacians called themselves daoi. A tradition preserved by Hesychius does not inform that daos was the Phrygian name of the "wolf". In Lower Moesia we can find the city of Daous-dava, which literally means "the city of wolves". So the Dacians called themselves wolves or "those who are like wolves".
